Creating your own Fresh Mint Liqueur is a rewarding and flavorful experience. This homemade liqueur captures the vibrant, herbal essence of fresh mint, balanced with the warmth of vodka and the sweetness of sugar. With just a few simple ingredients and some patience, you can craft a liqueur that’s perfect for sipping, mixing into cocktails, or gifting to friends. The addition of green and blue food coloring gives the liqueur a beautiful, deep green hue, reminiscent of the freshest mint leaves.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 Cup(s) Mint Leaves
- 3 Cup(s) Vodka
- 2 Cup(s) Sugar
- 1 Cup(s) Water
- 1 tsp Glycerine
- 8 Drop(s) Green food colouring
- 2 Drop(s) Blue Food Colouring
Instructions
Prepare the Mint Leaves:
- Wash the mint leaves thoroughly in cold water several times. Shake or pat dry gently with a towel. Snip each leaf into halves or thirds, discarding the stems. Lightly pack the cut mint leaves to measure 1 1/4 cups.
Combine with Vodka:
- In a large aging container, combine the mint leaves and 3 cups of vodka. Cap the container and store it in a cool, dark place for 2 weeks, allowing the mint to infuse the vodka.
Strain and Sweeten:
- After 2 weeks, strain the mint leaves from the vodka. In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, creating a simple syrup. Allow the syrup to cool, then add it to the infused vodka.
Add Glycerine and Color:
- Stir in 1 teaspoon of glycerine to add smoothness to the liqueur. Add 8 drops of green food coloring and 2 drops of blue food coloring to achieve a vibrant green color.
Bottle and Store:
- Transfer the liqueur to a clean bottle, seal tightly, and store it in a cool, dark place. The liqueur is ready to enjoy immediately, but the flavors will continue to develop over time.
