Nothing says winter like a warm glass of mulled wine. This spiced and slightly sweet punch brings together bold red wine, a splash of brandy, and cozy spices like cinnamon and cloves. It’s the perfect drink for holiday gatherings, cozy nights in, or even a winter dinner party. With just a hint of citrus from the lemon, this mulled wine is easy to make and hard to forget!

Ingredients

Instructions

Simmer Spices:

  • In a stainless steel pot, combine 3 cups of water, 1 cup of sugar, 12 cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks, and the peel of one lemon. Bring to a gentle simmer and let it bubble for 10 minutes.

Add Wine:

  • Pour in the bottle of red wine, stirring gently. Warm the mixture to about “coffee temperature”—hot but not boiling.

Finish with Brandy:

  • Once the wine is warmed, add the ¼ cup of brandy, stir, and taste to adjust sweetness if needed.

Serve:

  • Ladle into mugs and enjoy the cozy warmth of each sip!

Notes

Mulled wine is best served warm, not boiling. Overheating can cook off the alcohol and alter the flavor, so aim for a gentle simmer when adding the wine. For an extra festive touch, garnish each mug with a cinnamon stick, a twist of lemon, or even a slice of orange.
This recipe makes enough for a small gathering, but feel free to double up for larger parties. Mulled wine also keeps well in a slow cooker on low heat, which helps maintain the perfect serving temperature throughout your event.
