Ingredients

Instructions

Prepare the Shot Glasses:

  • Start by rimming your shot glasses with sugar to create a sweet edge that complements the fruity flavors of the shot. If you have purple sugar, it works exceptionally well for adding a fun, colorful touch. Simply wet the rim of each shot glass with a piece of lime or lemon, then dip it into the sugar spread out on a small plate.

Mix the Ingredients:

  • In a shaker, add ice and pour in equal parts of Viniq Original, grape vodka, grape schnapps, and Hpnotiq Harmonie. These ingredients provide a base of fruity and floral flavors that are both refreshing and sweet.

Add Lemon Lime Soda:

  • Add lemon lime soda to the mixture in the shaker. The soda adds a fizzy component that lightens the drink and enhances its refreshing qualities.

Shake Gently:

  • Give the shaker a gentle shake to mix the ingredients without causing too much fizz from the soda.

Serve:

  • Strain the mixture into the prepared sugared shot glasses. The final drink should have a smooth, slightly effervescent texture with a beautiful color gradient.

Notes

  • Serve the shots immediately after preparation to maintain the fizziness of the soda and ensure the sugar rim doesn’t dissolve.
  • For a cooler drink, chill the liqueurs and soda before mixing.
The Wet Fantasy shot is sure to be a hit at any gathering, offering a tantalizing taste and an eye-catching appearance. Its combination of sweet and tangy flavors makes it a popular choice for those looking to add a bit of fantasy to their cocktail experience. Enjoy responsibly and let the vibrant flavors transport you to a world of delicious indulgence!

Where it came from

The Wet Fantasy is a 2010s American novelty shot built around Viniq, the shimmer-powder vodka liqueur that dominated bachelorette-party Instagram from 2014 onwards. Equal parts Viniq, grape vodka, grape schnapps, Hpnotiq, lemon-lime soda, with a sugar rim around the shot glass. The ingredients all sit in the grape-and-tropical fruit lane.

It sits in the shimmer-shot family with the Mermaid Shot, the Galaxy Shot and the Unicorn Shot. All four lean on Viniq or another shimmer-powder spirit for the visual signature. The Wet Fantasy separates itself with the grape-vodka-and-Hpnotiq pairing, which delivers a deeper purple-blue colour story than the pastel-pink shimmer shots.

Best ordered at a bachelorette party or a Instagram-friendly cocktail bar with a strong novelty menu, not at a craft cocktail bar. The visual is the marketing; the grape-and-tropical flavour is the substance.

What it tastes like

Sweet grape up front, soft tropical Hpnotiq through the middle, lemon-lime fizz on the finish. The sugar rim adds a sweet-bitter accent on each sip. The Viniq shimmer particles add a visual sparkle without changing the flavour; the overall profile reads sweet, grape-forward and faintly tropical.

Around 14 percent ABV in the shot glass once shaken. Equal parts of three liqueurs and a vodka, plus a non-alcoholic mixer, gives a moderate-strength shot; the sugar rim and the shimmer particles slow the shot down on the palate.

The technique

Combine equal parts (about a third ounce each) of Viniq Original, grape vodka, grape schnapps, Hpnotiq Harmonie, plus a third ounce of lemon-lime soda in a shaker with ice. Shake hard for five seconds. Rim a tall sugar-rimmed shot glass with a wet citrus wedge dipped in white sugar. Strain the shot into the rimmed glass.

The sugar rim is the technique. Dip the rim of the shot glass in lemon-lime soda or a wet citrus wedge first, then in white sugar. The wet rim picks up the sugar to create a clean band around the top of the glass; the sugar adds a sweet-bitter accent on each sip. Shake gently to preserve the shimmer particles in suspension.

Ingredient Spotlight

The bottles that make or break this drink.

The Viniq

Use
Viniq Original (purple shimmer) or Viniq Glow (pink shimmer).
Skip
Standard vodka or grape liqueur without shimmer particles. Loses the visual signature.
Why
Viniq is the load-bearing visual. The shimmer-powder pearl particles in the liqueur deliver the visible sparkle that gives the Wet Fantasy its Instagram appeal; without it the shot is just a coloured grape-vodka mix, which loses the entire novelty character.

The grape components

Use
Grape vodka (Smirnoff Grape, Three Olives Grape) and grape schnapps (DeKuyper Grape Pucker).
Skip
Wine or grape juice. Wrong sweetness curve and no alcohol.
Why
The grape vodka and grape schnapps deliver the lead flavour. The combination of distilled-grape and grape-liqueur creates a deeper grape character than either alone; without both, the shot drinks too thin or too sweet.

The Hpnotiq

Use
Hpnotiq Harmonie (the blue tropical version).
Skip
Standard Hpnotiq blue. Different sweetness curve.
Why
Hpnotiq Harmonie delivers the tropical-and-citrus middle note. The blue colour blends with the purple Viniq to create the deeper shifting colour story; the tropical-fruit profile bridges the grape spirits and the lemon-lime finish.

Three Variations

Three real ways bartenders riff on this drink. Same idea, three different jackets.

The standard build

Wet Fantasy, sugar-rimmed
Equal parts Viniq, grape vodka, grape schnapps, Hpnotiq Harmonie, and lemon-lime soda, shaken with ice and strained into a sugar-rimmed tall shot glass.

The layered build

Wet Fantasy, layered
Skip the shake. Layer the four spirits over the back of a bar spoon for a multi-coloured visual; top with a splash of lemon-lime soda. Drinks the same; loses some of the shimmer suspension.

The cocktail build

Wet Fantasy Cocktail
Multiply each ingredient by three and serve over ice in a hurricane glass. Drinks like a long sweet-fruity highball; same flavour balance, slower pour.

What if I don't have…

Quick substitutions for when the bottle shop is closed.

No Viniq?

Standard grape vodka with a teaspoon of edible shimmer powder. Different texture, holds the shimmer visual.

No grape schnapps?

Cassis (blackcurrant liqueur). Different berry, holds the deep-fruit liqueur character.

No Hpnotiq Harmonie?

Blue curacao plus a splash of pineapple juice. Different texture, holds the tropical-and-blue character.

No lemon-lime soda?

Sprite, 7Up or any lemon-lime carbonated mixer. All work for the fizz lift.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to what people search for after Googling this drink.

What is in a Wet Fantasy shot?

Equal parts Viniq, grape vodka, grape schnapps, Hpnotiq Harmonie and lemon-lime soda, plus a sugar rim, shaken with ice and strained into a tall shot glass.

Why is it called a Wet Fantasy?

The name is novelty-bar marketing from the 2010s shimmer-shot wave. The Wet refers to the wet-rimmed sugar rim and the soda finish; the Fantasy refers to the shimmer-particle visual and the multi-coloured layered look.

How strong is a Wet Fantasy?

Around 14 percent ABV in the shot glass once shaken. The shot drinks closer to a sweet sipping pour than a hard spirit shot.

What does it taste like?

Sweet grape up front, soft tropical Hpnotiq through the middle, lemon-lime fizz on the finish. The sugar rim adds a sweet-bitter accent. Reads sweet and grape-forward with a faint tropical lift.

What is Viniq?

Viniq is a vodka-based shimmer liqueur, around 17 percent ABV, infused with edible shimmer powder that suspends in the liquid. The shimmer particles create a visible sparkle when the bottle or glass is moved; the flavour is grape-and-tropical.

Can I make it without Viniq?

Possible but loses the visual signature. Standard grape vodka with a teaspoon of edible shimmer powder works as a substitute and holds the shimmer effect; without any shimmer the shot loses its Instagram-novelty character.

Should I shake or layer?

Either works. Shaking blends the colours and suspends the shimmer particles evenly; layering preserves the multi-coloured visual but the shimmer can settle. Shake for the brighter visual; layer for the colour-band visual.

What other shimmer shots are similar?

A Mermaid Shot, a Galaxy Shot, a Unicorn Shot and a Disco Ball Shot. All four lean on Viniq or another shimmer-powder spirit for the visual signature and the bachelorette-party novelty character.
